Bypoll passes peacefully in ward 117

Kolkata: The by-election in ward 117 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in Behala area was held peacefully on Sunday. The voting was held as Sailen Dasgupta, the councillor of ward 117, died on December 30, 2016, due to geriatric ailments.

Amit Singh, the Trinamool Congress candidate who contested in the by-election, said that he is confident of winning as there has been a lot of development in the area under the Trinamool Congress board at KMC.

Singh is the son of KMC's Member, Mayor-in-Council (Drainage) Tarak Singh, who is the councillor of ward 118, the adjacent ward.

There were eight polling premises and 19 polling stations where the polls were held amidst tight security arrangement by Kolkata Police. The polling started at around 7 am and ended at 3 pm. The results will be announced on December 19.
