Buddhadeb on fast-track to recovery

Kolkata: Former Chief Minister Budhhadeb Bhattacharjee has shown signs of fast improvement, with his blood pressure remaining normal on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, Bhattacharjee had biscuit and tea without sugar. Later in the day, he also listened to Rabindra Sangeet. He has already overcome the respiratory distress with which he had been admitted to a private hospital in the city on September 6.

It may be mentioned that the ailing Bhattacharjee was released from the hospital on Monday, after he insisted on going back home.

It was also learnt that he had stopped talking to the doctors as they were unwilling to discharge him from the hospital so early.

Bhattacharjee has since been under medication at home and intravenous antibiotics and supportive care like BIPAP, nebulisation and chest physiotherapy are being applied on him.

BIPAP was conducted on the patient on Tuesday so that the oxygen level in his body gets increased. He had low oxygen saturation and high carbon-dioxide level in his blood initially when taken to the hospital, but the situation has improved gradually.

He also had an acute respiratory problem and low blood pressure. Bhattacharjee has been a patient of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and often complained of multiple cardiac ailments.

The doctors are visiting him at his residence and his health condition is being monitored from time to time.
