BSF hosts half marathon in memory of killed troopers

Kolkata: The BSF Half Marathon — 2017, "Run For Martyrs", was held in the city on Sunday morning.
Lt. General Abhay Krishna, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Indian Army, flagged off the 21 km-long half marathon that started from Red Road.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, the Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports department, flagged off the next 10 km-long half marathon that began at 6 am. The 5 km marathon was flagged off by actors from Tollywood.
PSR Anjaneyulu, Inspector General of BSF's South Bengal Frontier and other senior officers were also present at the programme. The half marathon received overwhelming response from the city dwellers and people from other parts of the state. Participants from different parts of Bengal came to the city on Sunday early morning to participate in the half marathon. Around 2,732 runners participated in the event. Apart from them, BSF officers, and its rank and file from different battalions and sectors in South Bengal Frontier also took part.
Besides the winners, each and every participant received medals and certificates. "The marathon received overwhelming response of residents of Kolkata and total 2,732 runners participated in the run," a spokesperson said.
"An amount of Rs 12 lakh which was collected by way of registration money for this event has been contributed in the Martyrs Fund at the BSF headquarters in New Delhi," he added.
