Bangladeshi national arrested with 5 gold bars

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police's STF on Saturday arrested a Bangladeshi national from the city and recovered gold bars weighing around 583 grams from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a place at Rabindra Sarani where the accused was present and was eventually arrested.

The police came to know that the accused intended to hand over the gold bars in Burrabazar area. The accused has been identified as Naddker Zaman who is a resident of Lakhimpur district in Bangladesh.

According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that he had smuggled the gold bars from the neighbouring country.

After entering the state, he took a local train from Bongaon and reached Sealdah. He wanted to sell the gold bars in Burrabazar. But the police managed to get hold of the accused before he landed at Burrabazar area.

A specific case has been started in this incident. The cops are trying to learn if he is a part of any international smuggling racket. A probe is going on.

According to the STF, the accused had concealed all the gold bars inside his inner garments. The police seized five gold bars weighing around 583 gms.
