Aroop Biswas unveils youth's hostel, says state keen to back sports talent

Kolkata: State Sports and Youth Services and Public Works Department (PWD) minister Aroop Biswas on Wednesday said that state government is keen to provide infrastructure for the talented youths in sports.

On Wednesday, he inaugurated the newly-constructed youth hostel named as Navaprajanma State Youth Hostel, on the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan premises. According to Biswas, people who come to Kolkata from outside stay in hotels and pay a lot of money as rent. People can stay here at a low rate. There are dormitories, and single rooms will be available. Also, sportspersons will get benefits. In the past few years, Sports and Youth Development department renovated the existing youth hostel besides constructing the new one.

After inauguration of the youth hostel, Biswas went to unveil a table tennis academy beside the youth hostel. After inauguration, Biswas played a few rounds with a junior table tennis player. Later, he had a look at the 'robo machine', which is an automatic table tennis ball pitcher. "This machine will help the players to improve their skills through their practice. Earlier, one machine was imported for table tennis player Poulomi Ghatak for his practice. However, at present only one such machine has been installed here. If needed more such machines will be bought," said Biswas.

He informed that in the academy there is a facility of recording the practice sessions and later the player can see the footage and coach can mark the flaws which would help the players to improve. Apart from tennis coaching players representing Bengal and players from across the country can practice here.
