App cab driver found dead in drain near home at Baguiati

Kolkata: An app cab driver, identified as Raja Das was found dead in a drain near his home in Baguiati on Wednesday. According to sources, a marriage ceremony was scheduled at a house in Deshbandhunagar on Wednesday.

Early in morning, a few persons from the house where the marriage ceremony was scheduled were going to a pond nearby to perform rituals. As soon as they came out of their house, they saw a youth lying in the drain opposite to the house.

They called other family members and local residents and they identified the youth as Raja. They informed Baguiati police station and Raja's family. After a few minutes, the police came and recovered the body.

During preliminary investigation, police officials found three injury marks on Raja's head which was suspected to have occurred when he was hit using some blunt object. Later, police sent the body for autopsy examination. Raja's father informed police that his son used to manage two app cabs which were being taken on lease. He used drive one and for the other a driver was recruited. On Tuesday evening he went out of his home. Later, he called up his father Swapan Das and told him that he is with a friend and would reach home late at night.

During the investigation, the police found blood stain on the road. Investigators suspect that Raja might have been killed somewhere else. His body was dragged and dumped in the drain. Till Wednesday night, no complaint was lodged at the Baguiati police station.

Deputy Commissioner, Airport Division, J Mercy on Wednesday evening said: "We have received no complaints till now. It is suspected that the youth has been murdered. However, we are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain exact cause of death."
