5-year-old falls from joyride, suffers serious injuries

Kolkata: A 5-year-old girl was injured after she fell from a joyride which took place on Bhukailash Road at Ekbalpore on Friday evening.
The victim has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), however, said the civic body had no role to play as the joyride was taking place on a private property. The KMC had no information about it. Police said the victim, Samridhhi Mishra, visited her maternal uncle's house in the area and her family members took her to the ground where a fair was on. Various joyrides were also taking place. The victim insisted her family members for that particular joyride. She went into the enclosure to enjoy the ride while her family members stayed outside. She fell off when she was almost in the middle of the ride. The locals and her family members rushed to the spot and rescued the victim who suffered serious injuries on various parts of her body and also on her head. She was immediately rushed to SSKM Hospital. She was later shifted to a private hospital on Friday night.
Police rushed to the spot following the incident and stopped the joyride. The locals alleged that there were serious lapses on the part of the organisers of the fair. Police are investigating if the organisers had any valid permission from the fire and other concerned departments.
When contacted, Debasish Kumar, Member and Mayor-in-Council (Parks and Squares) said the joyride was taking place on a private property. He also added that if this type of joyride is held on KMC-owned lands, the organisers need to take three permissions from the civic authorities.
