3 held including B'deshi nationals from Gobardanga

Kolkata: North 24-Parganas district police arrested three persons, including two Bangladeshi nationals from Gobardanga on Saturday night.

The Bangladeshi nationals are Sujan Roy (26) and Rajib Mondal (26). They were aimlessly roaming near the market place situated close to the railway station when they were arrested. Police have also arrested one Najrul Mondal, who is believed to be a tout and had helped the duo to cross the border.

According to police, all the three persons were roaming aimlessly and this aroused suspicion of the police personnel, who were conducting vigil in the area. They were taken to the local police station for interrogation.

Police have arrested them as they failed to produce any valid documents. It was learnt that in the face of prolonged interrogation, the duo admitted they had entered the Indian Territory illegally through the Indo-Bangladesh border at Jhaidnaga village.

They also told the police that Mondal had helped them to cross the international border. The accused, however, claimed that they had come here for job.

Police are investigating all possible angles behind the incident. They are yet to ascertain the real motive of the youths and why they had entered the country with the help of a tout.

Police are also investigating whether they are involved in any anti-national activities or have been involved with any extremist groups.

They have started a detailed probe.

It may be mentioned here that the district police have arrested around 15 Bangladeshi nationals in the last few months, who also claimed to have entered the Indian Territory in search of jobs.

The district police are vigilant particularly in the border adjoining areas.
