3 Bangladeshi nationals held with gold bars worth Rs 30 lakh

Kolkata: Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested three Bangladeshi nationals and seized gold bars approximately worth Rs 30 lakh on Thursday evening.

According to the police, on Thursday afternoon, STF officials were informed by their sources about three Bangladeshi nationals who were carrying gold. Based on the source information, STF personnel were keeping a vigil in and around the Sealdah railway station's parking lot.

In the evening, three suspects identified as Liakot Hossain of Sariatpur, Kamrul Hasan of Munsiganj and Ali Akbar of Sariatpur in Bangladesh were spotted and they were intercepted by the STF personnel.

During the search, police found eight gold bars from their luggage which were concealed in the cloths.

Immediately they were detained and taken to Entally police station for questioning. It was found that total weight of the gold bars is 850 grams.

During the interrogation, the trio failed to provide any substantial document regarding the gold bars and also couldn't satisfy the police with their answers. During checking their passports, the police came to know that the trio had crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border at Gede in Nadia on Wednesday on business visa.

On September 5, three persons were arrested at the Jorasanko police station for allegedly trying to smuggle gold bars worth more than Rs one crore.

The police had information that a few persons will come to Burrabazar area with huge quantity of gold. Officers started keeping an eye in Burrabazar. In the afternoon, the police identified three persons and detained them. The trio was taken to Jorasanko police station and their bags were searched. The police found three gold bars worth Rs 1.14 crore approximately and cash worth Rs 1.35 lakh from them.
