2 hurt in twin firing incidents in city

Kolkata: The city witnessed two back-to-back firing incidents— one at Kasba on Sunday night and another at Garden Reach on Monday morning — in which two persons were injured.

According to police sources, one Birbhadra Singh, a resident of Lichubagan in Garden Reach was shot at on Monday morning. The victim was going for some work when a miscreant came on a motorcycle and fired at him. He was immediately rushed to SSKM hospital where he underwent a surgery .

The victim's family members have alleged that Singh had recently joined RSS following which some miscreants had threatened him with dire consequences." It might be the handiwork of one of those miscreants, the victim's elder brother said.

The local councilor however refuted such allegations and said that Singh was shot due to some family dispute.

Meanwhile, another incident of firing was reported from GS Bose Road under Kasba police station area on Sunday night. A person Pradip Bhakta was allegedly shot at.

Locals alleged that some anti-socials were trying to take control of a club in the area. A pond is situated just at the back of the club and a promoter who had allegiance to the miscreants had plans of filling it illegally and use it for real estate.

Club members alleged that the promoter and his associates had intimidated club members on Sunday morning. They also alleged that the miscreants hurled bombs during the night as they fled away. However, the police have not found any trace of bombing in the area.

The police have arrested one Santosh Sharma in this connection. The local police station along with Anti Rowdy section of Kolkata Police's Detective Department are probing both the incidents. Police picket was posted at both the incident spots.
