13 killed, several injured in separate road accidents

KOLKATA: Thirteen people were killed and many others injured in separate road accidents in six south Bengal districts in the past 24 hours.
Four people were killed and around six, including a bride and groom, were injured when the car in which they were returning on Tuesday morning after the wedding was hit by a lorry. The accident took at Rampurhat in Birbhum.
There were around 10 people inside the ill-fated car. After speaking to locals, police came to know that a truck was plying at a high speed and it hit the car after failing to control its speed at a sharp turn.
The situation turned worse when fire broke out in the car. A fire tender was pressed into service to douse the flames. All of them were taken to Rampurhat Hospital where four were declared brought dead. The six others including the bride and the groom were provided with necessary treatment in the hospital.
In Bankura, a driver and helper of a lorry were killed when the vehicle fell into a road side ditch on Tuesday mor- ning.
The lorry was laden with stonechips and the speeding lorry fell into the ditch near Kadamghati on Bankura Durgapur Road.
Police went to the spot and rescued them. Both were declared brought dead when taken to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital. The bodies have been sent for autopsies.
In another road accident at Kandi in Murshidabad, a 23-year-old youth Rintu and a third year student of Kandi Raj College, Tanushree Dutta, were killed when their car hit a road side tree on Kandi-Behrampore State Highway near Khosbaspur.
Police came to know that Rintu was initially driving the car. But the accident took place when the third year student was learning how to drive the car.
The youth Rintu and Tanushree had set out in the car to visit some of the Saraswati Puja mandals in the area. The truck has been seized but the driver managed to flee.
A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a motorbike at Champahati in South 24-Parganas on Tuesday morning. Locals took him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Four more people were killed in two separate road accidents at Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas and Chandrakona in East Midnapore. In Madhyamgram, a truck hit an auto-rickshaw and it led to the death of two persons. The victims were travelling in an auto-rickshaw that was hit by the truck.
Twenty people were injured when a bus collided with a truck at Goghat in Hooghly. Eight of them were admitted to hospital.
Another accident took place on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass near Kalikapur when an app cab hit a pillar of the Garia-Airport Metro. Two persons were injured in the incident.
