Kolkata Police tighten security at Park Street

The city police tightened up the security at Park Street area to avoid any untoward incident on Christmas.

Rajeev Mishra, joint commissioner of police (headquarters), said additional policemen will be posted at Park Street from December 24 evening.

There will be 15 police assistance booths and 11 watch towers will be put up to keep a vigil. The shops at park Street will remain close from 4 pm on December 25. The entire Park Street area will be divided into 5 zones and an officer of deputy commissioner rank will be on charge of each zones.

Movement of traffic on Park Street and some of its adjacent roads will be restricted from December 24 evening.

Policemen will also be deployed outside churches in the city. Policemen in civil dress will be on duty at crowded places including shopping malls and clubs. 

Additional Heavy Radio Flying Squads and Quick Response Teams will be on duty at Park Street. Police pickets will be posted at 80 different points in the city. Police will check vehicles at the pickets.
