Kolkata-Murshidabad luxury cruise inaugurated

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday inaugurated a luxury cruise by remote video connectivity.

Principal Secretary of transport department Alapan Bandopadhyay was present at the inauguration ceremony that took place in the city.

The Heritage River Cruise Private Limited will run the cruise.  

The package for seven days cruise from Kolkata to Murshidabad will be Rs 1 lakh per person. The passengers will enjoy the heritage sites along the Hooghly river. 

Murshidabad attracks thousands of domestic and foreign tourists every year.  The city has been beautified and the embankment has also been repaired. 

The Chief Minister recently inaugurated Motijheel at Lalbag which has become a major tourist attraction. 

The heritage cruise is likely to attract the European and American tourists who will be able to enjoy sunshine and the old monuments.  

Bandopadhyay said that the Chief Minister had taken special initiative to introduce river cruse in the state. 

Currently, 10 cruises going towards various directions including Sunderbans and Allahabad are available. 

The investment in the inland waterways is also quite impressive, he said.

All tickets in the cruise have been booked. There are 28 luxurious cabins with all modern facilities.

A private company has introduced two yachts  and Vivada  which operates a cruise to Sunderbans will introduce two  Catamerans  shortly. 

Bandopadhyay said  that the transport department had taken several schemes and under which boats, lunches to ferry passengers  were introduced. 

The jetties  have been repaired and strengthened.  In future more schemes will be taken to utilize inland waterways.
