ITBP team felicitated for conquering Everest

A six-member ITBP mountaineering team that conquered Mount Everest has been felicitated here by Amelia Hillary, the granddaughter of Edmund Hillary.

The ITBP expedition team climbed the 8,848 metre Everest from the Chinese side or North Cole on 19 May. The expedition was part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police [ITBP].

The team include R S Sonal, Pradip Kumar, Birender Singh, Devender Singh, Pasang Tenzing Sherpa and Krishna Prasad Gurung.

Two summiteers, Devender Singh and Krishna Prasad Gurung along with two other skiers also skied 1,000 metre down from 7,500 meter altitude setting a new record in Indian mountaineering and ski history. A 15-member Indian Army mountaineering team, including seven women, had also conquered the Everest on 25 and 26 May.

Felicitating the Army team for its successful ascent, Ambassador Jayanta Prasad said, 'This is for the first time such a large number of climbers from the Indian army scaled the Everest.'
