Infant swapped in hospital

The complainant has also demanded for the DNA test of the baby. Hospital authorities assured that the matter would be looked into and if anybody is found guilty stern action would be taken against them.

Usha Devi, a resident of Kanchrapara in North 24-Parganas was admitted to the hospital few days ago. On Saturday morning she had given birth to a girl child. The baby was put beside the mother few hours after the delivery.

Later in the day some staff members of the hospital went to the woman with another girl child and told her the baby who was lying on the bed alongside her was not her own. They put the baby they were carrying on the bed.

Following the incident, the woman called up her husband, Krishna who lodged a complaint of baby swap at the Manicktala police station. He demanded DNA test to ascertain their biological daughter.

The Hospital superintendent said that he would talk to the director of the ESI hospital if the DNA test could be possible. He also assured that they would conduct a probe in this regard. Two group D workers were temporarily suspended.
