Inebriated driver kills two, critically injures one; arrested

Two persons died while two persons were critically injured when a speeding Eeco car ran over them while they were walking on the roadside in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on late Thursday night. Senior police officers of the Outer District said that they have arrested the errant driver identified as 28-year-old Ravi, who was driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Thursday night near the fish market on the Sultanpuri-Mangolpuri road when Rohan (18), Madanlal (45), Ghanshyam (43) and a 45-year-old man were walking back home. Ravi, driving the car, was allegedly in an inebriated state and ran the vehicle over them and fled from the spot.

One of the locals saw the group of men lying in a pool of blood and made a PCR call after which a team of police rushed all the injured to the Sanjay Gandhi hospital in Mangolpuri. Rohan and the 45-year-old man, who is yet to be identified, were admitted and doctors tried to resuscitate them but in vain. Meanwhile, Ghanshyam and Madanlal who had received critical injuries are undergoing treatment.

Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Mangolpuri police station. Further investigation is underway.
