In 34 years, CPI(M) ruined Bengal, alleges Mamata

Lashing out at the erstwhile CPI(M) regime for “not doing enough” for the development of the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday accused the CPI(M) of “instigating violence” in the state in order to halt the development work.

“In 34 years (1977-2011) the CPI(M) had ruined the state. They had not taken up any developmental work in those years. They had pushed the state into a debt trap. And now when the people have rejected them and sent them to opposition benches they are now trying to create violence in the state and halt developmental work,” Banerjee alleged while inaugurating the 4.2 km long Park Circus-Parama Island flyover.

“They (CPI(M)) don't have any work to do apart from showing their faces in tv channels and creating violence throughout the state. They are only interested in petty politics and halt the development work. They should stay quiet as they have been rejected by the masses,” Banerjee further alleged.

Banerjee’s statement comes in the backdrop of widespread violence during the October 3 municipal polls in the state.

“This flyover was supposed to be completed by the Left <g data-gr-id="28">Front</g> but they did not bother to complete it. The central government was supposed to give us funds. But most of the funds behind the project was given by the state government,” she alleged. This flyover will be the biggest flyover of the state.
