IMG asks govt to cancel three more coal blocks

The inter-ministerial group (IMG) recommended the deallocation of three more coal blocks on Wednesday, which also concluded scrutiny of 29 mines and will meet on Thursday to review further cases.

The panel also recommended deduction of bank guarantee of four mines, including one given jointly to the world's largest steel producer Arcelor Mittal and GVK Powers, an official statement said.

The coal blocks recommended to be deallocated are North Dhadu allotted to Electrosteel Castings and others, Choritand Tailaya allotted to Rungta Mines and Sunflag Iron & Steel and Gondkhari allotted to Maharashtra Seamless, Dhariwal Infrastructure and Kesoram Industries.

The IMG is likely to begin the review of 29 more blocks allotted to government companies from 9 October, a source said. On Thursday, it will review mines including that given to Grasim Industries and IST Steel and Power.
