Howrah police to set up traffic guard at Santragachi

Howrah police have planned to set up a traffic guard at Santragachi to monitor smooth movement of vehicles.

The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna on Wednesday afternoon.

Santragachi is the main corridor connecting the city with NH-2 and NH-6. There is traffic jam in the area almost everyday because of the movement of heavy vehicles that include dumpers, traliors and container carriages. The Santragachi bridge is now getting repaired.

It may be recalled actor Piyush Ganguly died in a road accident on Santragachi bridge in October 2015. Following the incident, Banerjee went to the spot and ordered to repair the bridge.

The state Finance Minister Amit Mitra will place Vote on Accounts on February 27. As the Assembly elections will be held between April-May, there will be Vote on Accounts instead of a full-fledged budget, which will be submitted by the new government. There will be two-day discussion on Vote on Accounts.

The Assembly session will start on February 25 and will continue  till February 29. There was discussion on the proposal to set up two municipalities  at Mayenaguri in Jalpaiguri and Tehatta in Nadia.

Banerjee has directed to complete the work to provide scholarships to students from minority community within a month.
