Hopeless Cong clears decks for Dimple

After the Samajwadi Party's stupendous victory in Uttar Pradesh, the wife of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav wants to try her luck in politics again. Dimple Yadav filed her nomination papers on Tuesday for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat by-election to be held on 24 June.

Interestingly, what is interesting is that the Congress has decided not to field a candidate in Kannauj. This is being viewed as a 'friendly gesture' from the Congress towards the Samajwadi Party in lieu of its support in the presidential poll due in July. However, the sources in the Congress have a different story to tell.

Highly placed sources have revealed that the reason the Congress is not fielding any candidate against Dimple is that there is 'nothing for the Congress to look forward to in Uttar Pradesh any more after the debacle in the assembly election'. So, seeing its chances to be dismal in this election too it wants to maintain a safe distance by not fielding anyone from the party.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha poll, Dimple had lost to the Congress candidate Raj Babbar from Firozabad.
