Hooda not taking my call: Dikshit

There seems to be no 'final solution' for the water crisis that is plaguing the two Congress ruled states, Delhi and Haryana. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday alleged that her Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda refused to pick her call when she dialled his number.

'I tried to contact Hooda, but he is not picking up my call. We have invested and we should get our return. This is an injustice by Haryana towards Delhi. It is serious issue,' said Dikshit. A miffed, Dikshit had apparently complained to the PMO about Haryana's behaviour.

According to sources, Dikshit has also taken up the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram seeking early solution to the lingering Munak canal issue.

The GoM was set up last year by the Prime Minister after Delhi and Haryana failed to resolve the dispute.

With Haryana slashing normal supply of raw water on Thursday, production of water at various treatment plants have gone down significantly resulting in a huge gap in demand and supply.

Describing the situation as serious, Delhi Jal Board officials said production of water at the Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant has gone by 15 MGD due to short supply of raw water by Haryana.

Because of recent water curtail, areas in central, north and south-west Delhi faced heavy water shortage on Friday.

Officials said the water level at the Wazirabad pond has also come down by two feet below normal due to cut in supply by Haryana. Water treatment plants at Haiderpur, Wazirabad and Chandrawal rely on raw water supply from the Wazirabad pond.

Meanwhile, providing a twist to this unfolding drama, Hooda has written to Dikshit asserting that his state was not holding back the national capital's water share and the so-called saving of 80 million gallons per day is not an issue.
