Have you taken the Ice Bucket challenge yet?

You might have noticed a lot of celebrities willingly dousing buckets of iced water on their heads recently. If you are one of those who haven't yet been trapped in the furore and do not know what the Ice Bucket Challange is, here's your answer.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is created by the ALS Association, which is working towards fighting the Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is unyielding. It involves motor neurons dying off, leading to the loss of voluntary movement and muscles begin to waste. There’s essentially no treatment and the only drug approved to treat ALS, riluzole, slows the symptoms by only a few months.

The challenge involves dumping yourself with a bucket full of ice water or donating to the ALS Association or both. One also has to nominate their friends to take up the challenge. One version of the challenge, the participant is expected to donate $10 if they have poured the ice water over their head and donate $100 if they have not.

The Ice Bucket Challenge began a few year's ago and has now caught momentum with celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Robert Downey Junior, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga taking up the challenge and getting themselves filmed while being doused with icy water. The challenge has raised approximately $13.3 mn till now. Some of the other celebrities who have also taken the challenge are  Ben Affleck, Tom Hiddleston, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Nina Dobrev.
