Haryana gives three options to expand Airport Express line

According to an RTI filed by Aseen Takyar to find out the expansion plan of Airport Metro line, the Haryana government had sent these options to DMRC in July this year.

In a reply to an RTI, the DMRC informed that the state government had suggested three options to be taken into account. The government have also submitted detailed project report (DPR) of all three options.

As mentioned in the reply, the first option is to extend the line from IFFCO Chowk Gurgaon to Dwarka Sector 21, Dwarka with provision of independent depot.

The second proposal is that the line may be extended from IFFCO Chowk to Airport, wherein DMRC may give leasing rights for the operation of metro from Dwarka Sector 21 to Airport, if found technically feasible and workable. Both the these proposals may be implemented on build-operate- transfer (BOT) basis.

The third option, as suggested by Haryana government, is to extend the line from IFFCO Chowk to Dwarka Sector 21 with grant from state government and central government, on the pattern of Gurgaon and Faridabad metro.

Meanwhile, AK Singh, chief administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority, wrote a letter to DMRC on 15 July in which he said that he has not yet received the revised DPR. The project was discussed in the board meeting of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation held on 26 June, 2014. The board decided to expedite the implementation of the project.

‘Decision regarding the extension of metro from IFFCO Chowk to Dwarka is still not finalised, which is not only repugnant to citizens but also shows how serious is implementing authorities,’ said Takyar, who filed the RTI. He further informed that over Rs 50 lakhs was spent on soil testing and preparation of so many DPRs.
