Guj BJP urges Rajnath to field Advani from Gandhinagar

Party sources said, the Gujarat BJP unit after giving Varanasi seat to Modi and Lucknow to its party president, became concerned over Advani’s seat fearing that he might ask to contest from Bhopal or from Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh.

Even Advani personally wants to contest from Gandhinagar constituency and not from any other seat. Now, with Gujarat BJP spokesperson Vijay Rupani’s request to the party headquarters it is likely that Advani is going to contest from Gandhinagar, which he presently represents.

The state unit also wants Modi to contest from Ahmedabad East apart from Varanasi. However, the whole picture will be clear on Wednesday when the party Central Election Committee (CEC) will announce the list of candidates from Gujarat.

Sources said, if Modi will not contest from Ahmedabad East, then sitting MP Harin Pathak will contest from the same seat. There are 26 constituencies in Gujarat and list of all the candidates is likely to be announced on Wednesday.

On the context of BJP general secretary and in-charge of party’s UP affairs Amit Shah’s possible constituency, a senior BJP leader said, ‘In the last CEC meeting it was decided that he is unlikely to contest the Lok Sabha election.’

When asked Shah’s stand in the party, he said, ‘He is likely to be accommodated in the Rajya Sabha. But the final decision is yet to be taken by the CEC members.’ Shah was the Gujarat Home minister under Modi, but had to resign in 2010 after he was arrested on charges of having ordered a series of ‘encounter’ killings by the State Police.

The other candidates from Gujarat in the fray are Vithalbhai Soni, who is likely to contest from Porbandar, Dinu Solanki from Junagarh, Rahubhai Desai from Surat, Poonamben from Jamnagar and Ramanbhai Solanki from Anand.

Meanwhile, many fears that Modi ‘phenomena’ might give birth to enemies within the party leadership. The reason, the party leaders are claiming that the BJP PM candidate has projected himself as an individual before the nation.
