Govt to provide training to underpriviliged kids

In order to provide opportunities for skill development and sustainable employment to underprivileged boys living in its residential institutions, Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) has partnered with a non government organisation (NGO).

Satbir Silas Bedi, principal secretary of WCD on Monday stated that the department approached an NGO Empower Pragati, a partner company of National Skill Development Corporation, specialised in skill development through vocational training and economic rehabilitation of the underprivileged youth.

The department also approached Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to provide funds for this project as part of its corporate social responsibility. Bedi informed that MoU has been signed with both of them.

‘While Empower Pragati will provide the training, IOC will look after the finances for the project. The department will be responsible for providing the infrastructural support in terms of space, and other required facilities along with monitoring of the project,’ he said.

Skill enhancement and rehabilitation centres for juveniles were set up by WCDS in two residential institutions at Kingsway Camp and Alipur during April 2014 and May 2014, respectively. Training is provided at these centres in retail, supply chain, hospitality management and mobile repairing.
