Goldsmith shot dead, Rs 50,000 looted in Nadia

A Maharashtrian, who was living in Nadia district as a goldsmith for the past 17 years, was shot dead and Rs 50,000 looted from him by unknown gunmen, police said on Tuesday.

Three masked gunmen came in a motorbike and demanded that the bag containing money be handed over to them when he was returning home along with a friend.

As he refused, they shot Amar Singh Hazari (35) dead, and fled with his bag containing Rs 50,000 at about 11.30 PM last night, according to a complaint lodged with the police by his friend Chand Kader Gazi.

Gazi, another Maharashtrian who used to staying with Hazari at Chakdaha, was at the spot when he was killed. Hazari’s wife and two minor sons also stayed with him. Hailing from Khanpur in Maharashtra, Hazari used to return home late along with Gazi.
