Ghaziabad to get international cricket stadium

An international cricket stadium is being planned in Ghaziabad by the Ghaziabad Development Authority [GDA]. This would be the third international cricket stadium in NCR after Feroz Shah Kotla and Greater Noida.

The proposed stadium would be on the bank of Hindon river in Arthla where a 70-acre land is likely to be finalised for the project. However, authorities say that only 50-acre land would be sufficient. The land was acquired in 2010 and earmarked for recreational purpose, so GDA can construct the stadium without changing land use.

‘We need to promote the game in this region. The stadium would provide a better facility for practise in the city and boost the morale of youths,’ said Santosh Kumar Yadav, vice-chairman of GDA. ‘We will soon invite consultants having expertise in the field to finalise the project,’ added Yadav. The cricket stadium would be the sixth stadium in Uttar Pradesh.

Presently, one international cricket stadium in Greater Noida and one sports complex with a cricket stadium is under construction in Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. Besides the most famous Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, the state has Kamla Stadium and Modia Stadium in Kanpur and Sports Stadium in Meerut.
