Four arrested for killing security personnel

The accused – Bikram Mondal, Dilip Shaw, Somnath Das and Prahallad Singh - were arrested in the wee hours on Sunday. All four were remanded in the custody of the police for 10 days, after being produced before the Howrah Court Sunday afternoon.

A youth had entered the residential complex Shanti Kunj and opened fired at Bijay Mallick. He died at the spot. Police had identified the miscreant after going through the footage of a surveillance camera installed in the apartment. But the police had failed to catch the person they had seen in the footage.

Later, the police came to know about Bikram, who had supplied the firearms and picked him up from his house. He revealed during interrogation that he had given the firearm to Prahallad. Subsequently, Prahallad and his associate Somnath, who took him to the spot on a motorbike, were arrested.

Though the police are yet to confirm who opened fire, as per preliminary investigation, Somnath had not entered the flat. He was waiting outside the apartment on his motorbike. But he had taken Prahallad to the spot and helped him to leave the area after committing the crime on his two-wheeler.
