Former CPI(M) MP Noorul Huda dead

Noorul Huda, a former CPI(M) MP from Assam, died here on Thursday, the party and his family said. He was 85.

Huda suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday and slipped into coma. He had been admitted to the Ruby Hospital with bronchitis about a week back, family sources said.

A central committee member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist, Huda is survived by his wife Chobi. He was a leader of the All India Kisan Sabha.

A CPI-M statement said Huda joined the then undivided Communist Party of India in 1949 in Kolkata after giving up his job as an engineer. He shifted to Silchar in Assam in 1966, two years after the CPI-M was born.
