Five traffic cops injured by car while manning barricade

Five traffic police officials were injured when a speeding car rammed into a police barricade in North Delhi's Civil Lines area in the wee hours of Monday, police said. The errant car driver, identified as Dinesh Sharma, has been arrested.

According to the police, the incident took place around <g data-gr-id="26">2am</g> when the victims were carrying out night checking at the Ring Road stretch in Civil Lines. The Traffic Police's started the night checking drive on July 10.

The police said the car was speeding. Sharma (47), along with his wife and daughter, was going towards his residence in Rohini from ITO when he allegedly <g data-gr-id="25">ra mmed</g> into the police barricade.
“Dinesh Sharma has been booked under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC. He was arrested immediately,” said Madhur Verma, DCP (North).

However, the police are yet to find out if Sharma was in an inebriated state while driving the car.

The five traffic police officials – Assistant Sub-Inspector Hemchand, Head Constable Virendra, constables Vineet and Pradeep – have  suffered fractures and have been admitted to <g data-gr-id="28">hospitals ,</g> said Verma.

He added while two officials were recuperating at the Sushruta Trauma Centre, the other three are undergoing treatment at Max Hospital, Patparganj. 

In February, a 50-year-old constable died and a Home Guard was injured when a car rammed into a police barricade they were guarding in East Delhi's Ghazipur area.
