Fire at Ordnance Factory Board building

A fire broke out at the Indian Ordnance Factory Board building. No injuries were, however, reported in the incident. The incident had triggered tension as the building is situated within the cluster of government offices with Calcutta High Court in the nearby vicinity.

Eight fire-tenders were pressed into action to douse the flame. Local people spotted the smoke billowing out of the ground floor of the building. They informed the matter to the fire brigade. The local people tried to douse the flame but they failed to do so as thick blaze was coming out of the room.

Police and fire officials said that the fire originated inside a room on the ground floor of the building. The firefighters brought the situation under control within a couple of hours. They are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. According to the preliminary investigation, police and fire officials suspect that an electrical short circuit might have caused the fire.

Police said that the fire took place around 2 pm. The fire officials said that the server room of the Ordnance Factory Board Office which is situated at the ground floor had caught fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The incident might not have caused any casualty but the incident certainly created tension among the local people. Police and fire officials have started an investigation.
