Students gear up to participate in Indoor Rowing Championship
Bengal Water Sports will be organizing the Asian School Indoor Rowing Championship 2018 from September 4 - December 2. The event will be inaugurated on September 4 at 4 pm, at Calcutta Rowing Club, Rabindra Sarobar, amidst the respected members of rowing fraternity and students.
The earlier edition of Concept2 Indoor Students Rowing Championship 2016 had been a grand success where 6000 students from different schools of Kolkata participated.
Considering the phenomenal response from the audience, the organisers are going to take this championship to a new platform by inviting students not only from schools of different states of India but also from countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The plan is to create history and get featured in 'The Guinness Book of World Records' and 'Limca Book of Records' as this kind of event has never been organised before.
This competition will have two different categories - 'School Children' and 'Special Children (Paralympics)'. The students have already started registering online and it is expected that more than 75, 000 students from West Bengal itself and more than 1.5 lakh students from all over India will be taking part this year.
The event aims to make young children aware of sports though Indoor Rowing - an injury free sport which takes very less time to learn, helps to promote teamwork and leadership amongst yound minds.
There are three different categories for the students to participate: Sub Sub Junior (9 -12 yrs) (boys and girls), Sub Junior (12 – 15 yrs) (boys and girls), Junior (12 – 15 yrs) (boys and girls). From level 1 i.e. Intra School Competition, 18 students from each school (9 boys – 9 girls) are selected for the next phase (Inter State Championship). All the participants will be given e-certificate for participation and the 18 selected students will get medal and trophies along with the certificates. The winners of level 2 will compete with other finalists from 4 countries at the grand finale, students from different States and Countries fighting for glory to become 'Champion of Champions'.
