Plight of mother earth expressed through Kathak

At a time when pollution level is going beyond 400 and global warming is becoming increasingly visible, Dr Rekha Mehra and her troupe danced their hearts out at Pragati Maidan in order to spread awareness about the plight of the earth. 'Dhani Chunariya', a Kathak ballet production was held at Hans Dhwani, Pragati Maidan during the World Book Fair.
Titled, 'Dhani Chunariya', this Kathak ballet showcased that even though man might be stepping into the 22nd century, the problem of pollution and climate change still looms. The sad consequences range from an upset ecological cycle to a sharp rise in diseases. What is ironical is that the very means and devices of comfort man is creating for his race have been the cause of environmental disbalances and natural calamities. Thus man himself poses a huge question mark over his existence and the solution to this grave self-created issue can be devised only by man.
Praising the performance, MP Parvesh Verma said, "Dr Rekha Mehra is the first person who had started promoting "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" and many more programmes through kathak and drama in Delhi and her performance always give the right message to the audience. We are always with Dr Rekha in her endeavours."
To spread awareness on the adverse effects of deforestation, 'Urvashi' had organized a campaign to plant saplings, which in future will grow into mighty trees. Special focus was laid on school children whose young minds are impressionable and who are to become the future torch-bearers of the society.
