Discussing millennial learning educational strategies for next gen

A day-long seminar on 'Millennial learning educational strategies for the next generation', presented by Sister Nivedita University was held on May 5. Organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with IIHM, the event took place at Hyatt Regency.
Dr Suborno Bose, the Chairman of Education Committee of BCCI and Indrajit Sen, President Designate of BCCI addressed the delegates after the marvelous inaugural session. Leonie Muldoon - Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, Australian Trade and Investment Commission, New Delhi, spoke about higher learning ecosystem. She talked about 'Micro Learning' – very short courses that help students to become the future workforce. Dr Anil Sahasrabudhe - Chairman of AICTE said, a move was on to devise a system in which colleges that secure a certain score in NAAC assessment would automatically be granted autonomy.
Dr (Professor) Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor of NMIMS talked about acquiring education that is changing now. "Non-conventional students are coming in as young entrepreneurs and new concepts like Cloud Computing and social media are coming into today's scenario so learning and work must go hand in hand, and a competency based educational model must be implemented", he said.
Bruce Bucknell – British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata talked about the global importance of English language, especially in this digital era. Satyam Roychowchury, the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee of BCCI said that this seminar is a forum that aims to bring together thought leaders and experts from the private sector as well as the government sector to discuss innovations and opportunities.
Ranjan Bandopadhyay, HR and Global Head of Tata Consultancy Services discussed innovation driven learning and preparing for a new world of student mobility with technology along with Dr Suranjan Das, Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University, Dr Rajan Saxena and Professor Suman Mukherjee, Director General of The Bhawanipore Education Society.
Dr Ashok Thakur – Chief Mentor and Advisor, Sister Nivedita University said that education is all about getting a holistic view, and students should learn the art of learning. An energetic session on 'Is the Millennial Generation getting educated or literate?' by rugby player Paul Walsh and Sourav Kothari, eminent cueist and winner of the Arjuna Award lit up the evening.
Dr Arundhati Bhattacharya talked about her days of student-hood in conversation with eminent radio personality Jimmy Tangree, where she fondly reminisced about how academic and professional hardships proved to be blessings in disguise in her life. How she chanced upon the decision to become a banker is a story of inspiration and determination of a woman who braved through uncountable hurdles in an industry dominated by men at that time.
