Bikram Dasgupta recalls how thinking big can lead to success

Last Saturday became the witness for a great day for the IT industry, as well as the readers with the launch of 'I Did It My Way: A Memoir' by Bikram Dasgupta published by Rupa Publications. Among the many stalwarts from the IT industry, Bratya Basu, Minister for Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal was present on the occasion to launch the book.
The book recounts Dasgupta's beginnings from his humble Bengali middle-class roots to helping create India's number one PC company of its day. Awarded the 'an ideas man' title by none other than Shiv Nadar himself, the book is an inspiring and enthralling insight into the life and times of someone who didn't shy away from thinking big. From HCL to starting his own company Dasgupta recalls how he single-handedly swung an eye-popping $50 million hardware export contract from Dell which placed PCL on the map as a PC company in India.
Dasgupta has spoken about his professional sojourn in a time when rapid changes were seen in the Indian IT industry. It also goes on to describe the way he created Globsyn, a company that would be a model for future IT organisations to follow. He has used his Business MBA accredited PGDM program as a potent vehicle and platform to reach out to vast numbers of high aspirational youth.
"I have recounted my professional journey in 'I Did It My Way'. The readers will get to know how I adapted with the fast-changing IT landscape of the country and developed a business model around the fundamental concepts of Infrastructure and Institution to service the knowledge economy and in 1997 conceptualized Globsyn as a group of companies, which embodied that vision", said Bikram Dasgupta, Founder and Executive Chairman, Globsyn Group.
This book is priced at Rs 595 and will be available in leading bookstores of the country and online platforms. The book can also be bought at the 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair at the Rupa Publications stall (Stall No. 252, Zone: Purple).
