A festival to celebrate spirit of tribal culture

The 15-day Aadi Mahotsav – a national Tribal Festival organised in New Delhi by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED to celebrate, cherish and promote the spirit of tribal craft, culture, cuisine, and commerce. The Mahotsav is organised from November 16-30 at Dilli Haat, INA; from November 21-30 at Nehru Park and from November 16-19 at Central Park, New Delhi.

Over 70 tribal artisans and artists from different States creating a Mini-India will be participating in the festival. The Tribal handicrafts would be sold through 40-45 Stalls under the Tribes Banner in the Twin Art Gallery, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi by tribal Artisans.

"More than 600 artisans from 23 states are participating in the event," said Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram.

The Tribal Minister further revealed that a total of 14 dance troupes are performing in the ongoing Mahotsav. In the whole tribal setup, the highlights of the festival will be the fashion show for tribal textiles and tribal cuisines.

With the theme 'celebration of the spirit of tribal culture, craft, cuisine and commerce' – the festival is featuring exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, art, paintings, fabric, jewellery and much more through over one hundred stalls which will be organised by the tribal artists from across the country.

The Aadi Mahotsav is an effort to take tribal commerce to the next level of digital and electronic transactions. The Mahotsav apart from exotic handicrafts will also show case the electronic and digital skills of the tribals as a special attraction.
