Even after poll victory, two TMC workers killed

Even after the formation of state government, attacks on Trimanool Congress (TMC) workers are on in various parts of the state.

On Sunday, a Trinamool Congress worker was killed at Ghatal in West Midnapore while another party worker, who received bullet injuries at Bhangar in South 24-Parganas on Saturday night, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.

In another incident of attack on Trinamool Congress workers at Ashoknagar in North 24-Parganas, two party workers were injured when CPI(M)-backed goons pelted stones at a victory rally.

In connection with the incident at Ghatal, a police officer said that local people found the body of Ganesh Dhara hanging from a tree at Akupur Shalika Primary School. Ganesh was missing since Saturday evening. He left home to meet a person in the adjacent village and he never returned.

His family members had initiated a search for him when he didn’t return till late night. They went to the house of his friends, but none had any information about Ganesh.  The family members had moved to the police and lodged a missing complaint.

On Sunday morning some local people saw his body hanging from a tree and informed the police. His family members have identified the body. They alleged that Ganesh is the victim of political violence.
Some CPI(M)-backed goons had been threatening him from ahead of the elections. They had threatened him with dire consequences. But he didn’t pay heed to their threat and worked for the party.

Police suspect that he was abducted and kept in someone’s house where he was beaten to death.
His body was later hanged from a tree to make people believe that he had committed suicide. There were several injury marks on his body.

Another Trinamool Congress worker Rafique Mollah was shot at on Saturday night at Bhangar in South 24-Parganas. He succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital off EM Bypass on Sunday morning.

Police said that two CPI(M)-backed goons on a motorbike approached Mollah when he was returning home on his two-wheeler and opened fire at him. Before anyone could have understood anything, the accused had managed to flee.

The local people took him to the private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Doctors said that he died due to profuse bleeding. The victim’s family members alleged that CPI(M) leader Ismail Mollah is behind the murder. CPI(M) leaders in the area, however, brushed aside all allegations.
