ER general manager inspects special arrangements at Sealdah

General Manager of Eastern Railway RK Gupta made a surprise visit to Sealdah station on Wednesday afternoon to inspect the special arrangements made by Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway for the pilgrims of Gangasagar Mela.

Gupta inspected various facilities including ‘May I Help You’ counters, booking counters, announcements for the guidance of Gangasagar pilgrims and many others. He also reviewed the punctuality of the additional EMU locals during the fair. He advised the divisional officials to make arrangements for proper guidance to the pilgrims for boarding trains as well as to further strengthen special steps for crowd management.

It is mentioned that for the convenience of pilgrims, Eastern Railway has opened sufficient number of counters at Sealdah, Kakdwip and Namkhana stations round the clock. Moreover, volunteers of civil defence, scouts and guides of Eastern Railway and St. John Ambulance brigade have been deployed at those stations in addition to RPF and GRP.

Special medical units are functioning at Kakdwip and Namkhana stations. Emergency lighting arrangements are made at different stations on Sealdah south section, especially Sealdah, Baruipur, Kakdwip and Namkhana. RPF personnel at Diamond Harbour, Lakshmikantapur, Namkhana and Kakdwip stations are supervising the law and order and social harmony in close coordination with the GRP.

Gupta expressed his happiness as Sealdah division has made a lot of improvement in cleanliness drive and also urged upon the cooperation of the passengers in making the drive successful.

To cope with the anticipated rush of pilgrims during Gangasagar Mela, Eastern Railway is plying seven galloping EMU Mela special trains on the Sealdah-Lakshmikantapur-Namkhana section and three EMU local trains on the same section have been extended.
