Lulu Wang boards Kidman's The Expatriates

Los Angeles: The Farewell writer-director Lulu Wang is set to pen and executive produce The Expatriates, an upcoming drama backed by actor Nicole Kidman's Blossom Films.

The Amazon series is based on Janice YK Lee's novel, reported Deadline.

Wang will also direct multiple episodes of the show.

The Expatriates follows the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community in Hong Kong.

"When I first read Janice Lee's diasporic novel, I was immediately drawn to the rich characters and the global yet intimate exploration of life in modern Hong Kong.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Nicole Kidman and Amazon, whose commitment to bold, nuanced storytelling make them the perfect partners to translate this atmospheric story to screen," Wang said.

Along with Kidman, Per Saari will also produce for Blossom Films. Theresa Park will also executive produce, with Lee serving as consulting producer.

The Beautiful Lie scribe Alice Bell is also attached as a writer and executive producer.

Recently released, The Farewell is Wang's second feature, which she both wrote and directed.
