DU Sports/ECA category applicants to appear for single trial

The trials for admission under sports category will commence from Thursday and will continue till July 1, 2016. This was decided at a meeting by DU administration on Monday.

Meanwhile, St Stephen’s College started the sports trials on Monday. While the university wanted the college to be a part of the centralised trial process, the college continued with its own schedule.

However, DU had sent its observer for the trials. The college, being a minority institution, used to have its own admission process including the sports trials. This year, DU has made it mandatory for all the applicants to Stephen’s to first register via the centralised online form of the university.

The University has already published the schedule related to sports quota admission and trial on its website. The announcement was made in a short notice of less than three days which could put a lot of outstation aspirants in a spot.

The university, till Tuesday evening, received 9,921 applications under the sports category and 7,255 applicants registered under the Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) category. The Sports and ECA categories comprise 5 per cent seats. This year, the university has decided to go for centralised, game-wise trials.

The decision was taken to hold a centralised sports trial process to avoid multiple tests of the applicants. “Delhi University aspirants will no longer have to appear for multiple tests to seek admission under the sports and Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) category with the varsity’s decision of conducting centralised trials for the ECA and Sports quota,” Tarun Das, Registrar of DU said.
