Doctor Strange wields magic at Indian box office

Marvel Studios' latest film Doctor Strange, a mystifying and mind-bending cinematic journey, saw a strong start in India with a weekend box office collection of Rs 10.10 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday: Doctor Strange goes from strength to strength. Friday Rs 2.63 crore, Saturday 3.46 crore, Sunday Rs 4.01 crore. Total: Rs 10.10 crore. India business.”

The figures have been validated by the studio.

Doctor Strange, which released in India on November 4, tells the story of neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). His life changes after a car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When experimental surgeries fail him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place -- a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj.

He soon learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange, armed with newly acquired magical powers, is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer.

The Scott Derrickson directorial also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton.
