Doc gets show cause notice for dereliction of duty

Dr Ashis Kumar Ghosh of Anansol district hospital has been asked to go for indefinite leave due to alleged dereliction of duty.

A show cause notice has been issued against the nursing superintendent. A three-member committee has been set up to probe into the allegations.

A two-and-a-half-year-old baby was admitted to the hospital with severe respiratory distress on January 26. After two days, the nurses found that the baby’s hands were turning blue due to some infection. The baby was later shifted to SSKM hospital. A medical board was set up to determine the course of treatment.

It was found that the doctor did not remove the rubber tube which was installed to administer saline.

It may be recalled that a nurse of Raigunj hospital was asked to go on an indefinite leave after she had cut a portion of new born’s finger. The victim received treatment at SSKM hospital following instruction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee had said over and again that under no circumstances dereliction of duties of doctors, nurses and para-medical staffs would be allowed.
