Dikshit calls on Singapore PM

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on day called on visiting Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and thanked him for his country's help in setting up a greenfield skill development institute here on the lines of its Institute of Technical Education [ITE].

During her interaction with Loong, the Chief Minister also spoke about the help extended by Singapore in setting up of a modern water recycling plant with a capacity of 40 MGD per day in the national capital.

Dikshit told the visiting Prime Minister that her Government would be eager to set up such more plants after assessment of the results of the first plant.

Expressed gratitude for rendering constructive cooperation in setting up a greenfield institute at south Delhi's Jaunapur, she said the Institute is being set up on the lines of a world class Institute at Singapore's ITE.

The Institute at New Delhi would not only go a long way in skill development of the youth but would also train the trainers, she told Loong.

They also exchanged views on issues concerning management of civic services in a city state and city nation. Singapore is a city nation whereas the Capital City Delhi is a city state.

Dikshit apprised him of Delhi's unique administrative set up, increasing population and pressure on civic services.

While Dikshit referred to her last visit to Singapore where marvellous infrastructural development has taken place, Loong appreciated the green cover of Delhi and assured his government's cooperation in different fields.
