Dhupguri rape: Victim’s parents leave house after getting threats

The parents of 15-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered in Dhupguri, was allegedly threatened by some men who were engaged by the accused.

Parents of the victim, whose body was found beside railway tracks in September 2014, had to leave their house as they were threatened with dire consequences.

Now they have taken shelter in one of their relatives’ house. The girl had protested against the ruling of a kangaroo court.

It may be mentioned that the main witness of the incident was also murdered a few weeks after the accused were released on conditional bail.

But the wife of the main witness had brought charges of murder against the victim’s father. As a result he was also arrested.

On Thursday, he was released on bail after which he came back to the village.

A few hours after he reached the village, some youth came to their house and started threatening him and his wife.

Again on Sunday night, the accused and his men had raided his house and threatened him with dire consequences.

Finally the couple had decided to leave their house on Tuesday and they have started staying in a relatives’ house till the accused getting punished.

Sources said the victim’s father was arrested based on a complaint of murdering the prime witness in the case.

“But why should I kill the person who is a witness of the rape and murder of my daughter,” the victim’s father asked, adding that he was arrested on the basis of false allegations.

The victim’s father said the accused became more desperate after the verdict of Kamduni rape and murder case.

It seems that the accused in Dhupguri case are apprehending that they too may be sentenced to death like the accused of the Kamduni incident.

“So they are threatening us and asking us to withdraw the case,” said the victim’s father, adding that there was no question of withdrawing the complaint.

“I have lodged a complaint with Dhupguri police station alleging that we are getting threats,” he said.

Officers from local police station and district administration took necessary steps to let the victim’s parents live peacefully at their own house.

Policemen have been posted near the residence and they have been asked to keep a watch whether anyone was moving around suspiciously near the house. Necessary steps will be taken if anyone is found loitering suspiciously, an officer said.
