Deputy secy arrested on graft charges

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a deputy secretary and a section officer of the Ministry of Rural Development in a bribery case on Tuesday night.

The arrested were identified as Satish Kalhotra (deputy secretary) and Pradhan Singh (section officer). “A case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on the allegations that Pradhan was demanding a bribe of Rs 68,000 for clearing bills worth Rs 6.8 lakh (approx) from the complainant who was supplying cars on rent to the Ministry,” a CBI spokesperson said.

Officials of the investigating agency laid a trap and caught the section officer red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000 from the complainant. During the course of investigation, the deputy secretary was also arrested for similar charges. 

Searches are being conducted in the office and residential premises of both the accused. They will be produced before the Designated Court in the national Capital on Wednesday.
