Zero power cut: Not only diesel gensets but inverters too diminished

New Delhi: Attaining almost zero power cut, the national Capital has not only diminished the need of diesel gensets but also the inverters across various parts of the city and thus the Delhi ruling AAP government has smoothly executed the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority's order to ban diesel gen-sets in the Capital.

Tracing the journey of major electricity sector reforms in the national capital an official at said Chief Minister official said, "We had launched a movement against exploitative electricity bills as well as erratic power supply, today electricity consumers are getting 24x 7 electricity supply at cheapest rates in the country." In 2013, the power cuts in Delhi were to the tune of 11.7 crore units. In 2018, this figure has plummeted 1.7 crore units, which is about 10 percent of number of cuts five years ago. The transmission losses in Delhi have gone down from 17 percent to 8 percent today, the official asserted.

Earlier, Industrial units as well as commercial hubs such as in Karol Bagh, old Delhi and Kamla markets have power-back such diesel gen-sets and inverters. Obviously, they have power back up gen sets but not in use due to proper and smooth power supplies. "Old Delhi is known for its wholesale markets such as Katran Nill, Naiyee Sadak, Dareeba Kalan, Khari Boawli etc. They have pollution-free environments due to smooth power supply," local traders said. Traders expressed that providing round-the-clock electricity can be considered as one the key reasons attributing to diminishing air pollution. While in NCR cities, power cuts happens almost every day for 2-3 hours. Notices were pasted that back-up will not provided after October 15, except for lift (in line with the EPCA order that diesel gen-sets are to be used only for essential services like running lifts in high rises) but ensuring zero power cut remains a major concern in these neighboring cities.
