Woman from Mathura succumbs to burn injuries

The Delhi Commission for Women on Saturday filed a zero FIR against the in-laws of a 27-year-old woman, who was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital with 90 per cent burn injuries and succumbed to her injuries.
The FIR was filed on the instance of the woman's family, who had brought her from Mathura on Thursday for treatment.
After the family called the women's helpline number 181, DCW sent a counsellor to the hospital for help. They told the counsellor that a previous statement by the victim recorded at Mathura police station was given under duress, where she said that she got burnt while cooking.
After DCW informed the area SDM, the victim's statement was taken at the hospital on Friday, where she said her in-laws in fact tried to kill her.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal called it a 'shameful incident' and asked Mathura Police to take immediate action against.
