'Unauthorised colonies will be developed in next two years'

Inaugurating a series of development works in West Delhi’s Mundka area, Chief Minister says all unauthorised colonies will get more Mohalla clinics

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will finish development of all the unauthorised colonies in the Capital in within two years, asserted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, adding that the government has set up the plan of action for this development drive.
"Unauthorized colonies are our priority now. I promise that we will finish development of all these colonies within two years," said Kejriwal at Mundka, inaugurating a series of development works in the West Delhi locality.
He added that the government will first make proper roads to every unauthorised colony. "The next time when I will visit your colony I will walk through proper roads and this is my promise," he said.
The Chief Minister also slammed the erstwhile Congress government, alleging that they have failed to give proper facilities to slum-dwellers.
He added that the government saves money in every little project, so that they can make more development. "How do we get this money? We do not take money, but save money on every project for the development of people," Kejriwal said.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials that if complaints are received that a development work is not happening at the requisite pace, the contractor would lose their license.
"We will not tolerate any corruption. The numbers of our officials are written on the board. Call them and inform if work in not happening. We will cancel the contract immediately," he said.
Kejriwal said that all unauthorised colonies will get more Mohalla clinics. "We have two more years and these years we will give you everything you need. We are not here to earn money but to stand by the people," he said.
The CM announced that in the remaining two-and-a-half-years of his term, sewers will be laid in 1,000 unauthorised colonies.
"There are 1,700 unauthorised colonies, in which people who came from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in search of work settled down. So far, we have laid water pipelines in 306 colonies. The remaining will get water supply, roads and drains in the next 2.5 years," Kejriwal claimed.
