Two rape cases reported

Gurugram: Minors continue to be unsafe in Gurugram as there seem to be no signs of reduction of sexual crimes in and around the city. In a quick succession, there have been two cases that have come to fore that have again shamed the city. The first incident was reported from the Faridabad district where a 16-year-old who was just a married a month before was abducted by the four people from the village, taken to Gurgram and then raped. Her perpetrators than left her in Sohna area where she got in touch with her father. The case has been registered in Faridabad and the police have begun their investigations.

The second incident was reported from the Sadar area of Gurugram where yet another minor was sexually assaulted by a barber who raped her after he found her to be alone in the house. The police have arrested the accused.

It is estimated that every fourth day there is a crime against a minor in Gurugram. In just six months, the city has witnessed more than 100 cases of sexual assault against minors.

In all, there have been 60 cases of cries that have been registered under the protection of children from sexual offenses act (POSCO) in addition to 40 cases that are registered under abduction, human traffickings and forced child labor.

Gurugram along with its counterpart Faridabad is leading in terms of sexual crimes against minors. In 2017 there were 106 cases of sexual crimes against minors while in 2016 there were 115. Not only sexual crimes but the law enforcement officials also have to deal with increased cases of human trafficking. In 2017, 154 minors were kidnapped from the city out of which 115 were girls. In the period 2012 to 2017 over 1,062 children have been kidnapped in which 677 are girls. According to Gurugram police, the gangs from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are highly active in committing such crimes.
