Two members of 'Thak Thak Gang' held in Delhi

The Delhi Police have arrested a key member of a robbers' gang, known commonly as "Thak Thak Gang", who divert attention of drivers by puncturing tyres or spilling mobiloil around to suggest it had leaked from their vehicle and decamp with valuables kept inside, a senior police officer said on Friday.

Police said Deepak, 35, along with a juvenile accomplice, was held on February 28 following a raid near Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal in Delhi. They had arrived in Delhi after committing thefts in Punjab.

"Police have recovered diamond and gold jewellery valued at Rs 1 crore from the residence of Deepak in Madangir of south Delhi. Deepak and his juvenile partner are the active members of the "Thak Thak Gang" and involved in various thefts," said Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav.

"Deepak and the juvenile had robbed a Chandni Chowk-based jeweller last year. They first got his car punctured near Barapulla Flyover at Sarai Kale Khan and decamped with articles and jewellery kept in the vehicle," Yadav said.

"During interrogation, they told police that they are running the 'Thak Thak' gang. The gang members divert the attention of car drivers by knocking hard on the car windows, puncturing tyres or spilling oil around the car.

"When the drivers steps out to check the vehicles, the juvenile gang member escapes with costly articles kept inside the car," the officer added.
